ASEAN and Netherlands to Strengthen Cooperation
The Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Le Luong Minh and Foreign Affairs Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Frans Timmermans, exchanged views on possible aspects on further strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and the Netherlands as well as ASEAN-EU cooperation. During the meeting that took place yesterday at the ASEAN Secretariat, the two leaders discussed a variety of issues including developments in ASEAN, the needs of ASEAN, and future developments in ASEAN-the Netherlands relations.
Foreign Minister Timmermans Took the opportunity to congratulate SG Minh for assuming the role as the new ASEAN Secretary-General for the period of 2013-2017. He underlined the Government of the Netherlands’ strong commitment to further intensify its cooperation with ASEAN in the areas namely, education, human rights, investment, and science and technology.
In response, SG Minh warmly welcomed Foreign Minister Timmermans and his delegation to the ASEAN Secretariat,as well as thanked the Netherlands for its assistance to the efforts in capacity building of the ASEAN Secretariat. SG Minh also conveyed Foreign Minister Timmermans That ASEAN Secretariat looks forward to enhancing the relationship between ASEAN and the Netherland in addition to ASEAN and EU.
